At Bikeroom, the goal is to ensure a smooth and transparent purchasing experience for all of our customers. We’re always committed to providing top-quality products and service, but recently there have been some significant changes regarding customs fees for U.S. customers. Here's what's changed, how it impacts you, and what we're doing to help.
What's Changed?
As officialized at the beginning of April 2025, there have been major increases in import duties for products entering the United States. These changes are the result of new tariffs implemented by the U.S. government, which have caused a dramatic rise in customs fees. As a result, U.S. customers who purchase from Bikeroom will now be responsible for paying these import fees directly.
Previously, Bikeroom operated on a Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) basis, meaning we collected the fees in advance to handle the customs duties for you. However, due to the new regulations, we are no longer able to operate under DDP for U.S. orders. Going forward, the customs duties will be billed by our shipping partners directly to the customer after customs clearance has taken place.
How Do the Fees Work?
The new duties vary depending on the country of manufacture of the product you purchase. Thy are calculated based on the total purchase value and its country of origin, and the shipper will send you a bill for the total import fees after your package has cleared customs. You can simulate your total due import fees using THIS TOOL.
What Does This Mean for You?
-
Import Fees: As the recipient of the goods, you will be responsible for paying the customs duties. These fees will be billed to you by FedEx, DHL, UPS or any other carrier after your order has cleared U.S. customs;
-
Billing: After your package is cleared, the carrier will contact you directly with the customs fees due. The bill will reflect the applicable import duty based on the product’s country of origin;
- No More Prepaid Fees: Unlike in the past, Bikeroom will no longer be collecting customs fees in advance. The customs duties will be billed separately and must be paid directly to our shipping partner.
Why Is This Happening?
The changes in customs fees are due to new tariffs set by the U.S. government, which are outside of Bikeroom's control. These tariffs vary by the country of origin, and the duty rates have increased significantly for many products. While this situation is frustrating, we want to be as transparent as possible so that our customers know what to expect.
