BH iRS1: The New e-Road Bike With the SEG BLM Motor, Explained

BH iRS1: The New e-Road Bike With the SEG BLM Motor, Explained

Summary

  • The iRS1 is the electric version of BH's RS1 road bike, fully redesigned for 2027 with an aero carbon frame and a new motor.
  • The motor is the SEG BLM from SEG Automotive: 700 W peak, 80 Nm, 2.1 kg, sensors sampling at up to 1,000 Hz. BH says it is silent and adds no drag when off.
  • 630 Wh internal battery on every model, with an optional 180 Wh bottle shaped extender for 810 Wh total. Claimed range 150 km, or 190 km with the extender.
  • Four builds from €3,699.90 to €6,999.90. The top model weighs 12.9 kg.
  • The range figures depend heavily on terrain and assistance level. Treat them as a ceiling.

What the iRS1 is for

An e-road bike is for a rider who wants to ride further, ride with faster friends, or keep climbing the mountains they have always climbed. BH's stated intent for the iRS1 is exactly that: longer routes, big elevation, and a feel as close to a normal road bike as the extra 5 kg allows. The Spanish brand has been in this segment for years and the iRS1 is its most complete attempt at it.

The frame

The carbon frame is new. BH uses what it calls Performance Carbon Layup, its fibre orientation scheme, and an HCIM process, Hollow Core Internal Moulding, which is meant to reduce internal imperfections and residual stress in the tubes. Tube sections are Kammtail, the truncated aero profile everyone now uses. The fork is shaped to keep airflow attached around the front wheel.

Cables run fully internally through the FSA ACR headset. The seat clamp is hidden. Tyre clearance is 32 mm. Geometry has been revised to raise the front end slightly for a more sustainable position over long distances, with shorter rear stays than before. BH has not published numeric geometry in the launch material; the full chart is in its downloadable spec sheet.

The entry model, the iRS1 1.2, uses a hydroformed aluminium frame rather than carbon. Everything above it is carbon.

The motor

This is the interesting part. The SEG BLM comes from SEG Automotive, a German automotive supplier building the unit in Spain, and it is new to bicycles.

SEG BLM
Peak power 700 W
Torque 80 Nm
Weight 2.1 kg
Sensors torque, cadence, speed, contactless
Sampling rate up to 1,000 Hz
Off state claimed zero drag, claimed silent

For context, the Fazua Ride 60 that many light e-road bikes use is 60 Nm and around 1.96 kg. The TQ HPR50 is 50 Nm and 1.85 kg. The SEG BLM sits at the high torque end for a road system while staying close to those weights. 80 Nm on a road bike is a lot; it will feel strong on steep climbs and most riders will spend most of their time in the lower modes.

Peak power of 700 W is a headline figure. EU regulations cap continuous rated power at 250 W and speed assistance at 25 km/h, so the 700 W is what the motor can deliver briefly, not what it sustains.

Battery and range

A 630 Wh battery lives in the down tube on every model. That is large for an e-road bike; most competitors carry 250 to 430 Wh and rely on extenders. The optional XPro extender adds 180 Wh in a bottle cage format, and BH's Dual Discharge lets the two batteries work together or independently.

BH claims 150 km on the internal battery and up to 190 km with the extender. BiciDaStrada, to its credit, says plainly that these numbers should be taken with a grain of salt. They will have been produced at low assistance on flat terrain with a light rider. A rider using the higher modes on a mountain route will see a fraction of that. Read our e-bike spec explainer for how to translate a Wh figure into a realistic range for your own riding.

The display sits in the top tube and shows speed, mode, remaining range, power, cadence and rider torque. Mode changes come from wired buttons on the bar. The SEG Connect app handles diagnostics, custom modes and over the air updates.

Builds and prices

Model Frame Groupset Wheels Weight
iRS1 Carbon 1.6 carbon Shimano Ultegra Di2 2x12 Vision TC45 carbon 12.9 kg
iRS1 Carbon 1.5 carbon Shimano 105 Di2 2x12 not specified not declared
iRS1 Carbon 1.4 carbon Shimano 105 mechanical 2x12 not specified not declared
iRS1 1.2 aluminium Shimano 105 mechanical 2x12 not specified not declared

Prices run from €3,699.90 for the 1.2 to €6,999.90 for the 1.6. BH has not published per model prices in the launch material. Sizes are SM, MD, LA and XL, except the 1.2 which stops at LA. Colours are on BH's site.

12.9 kg for the 1.6 is competitive. A light e-road bike with a 630 Wh battery under 13 kg is a good result. The battery size is what separates it from 11 kg rivals with half the capacity.

Who should look at it

A good fit if you want one e-road bike that does long mountain days without an extender, and you value torque over the lightest possible system.

Less of a fit if you want the bike to disappear when the motor is off. At 12.9 kg with a 2.1 kg motor it will always feel like an e-bike on a climb without assistance, whatever BH says about drag.

Worth comparing with the previous iRS1, which is on the market pre-owned and uses a different motor. The new one is a bigger step than a normal model year change because the drive system is entirely new. That also means the SEG BLM has no service history yet.

The BH collection on Bikeroom lists current BH stock, including the earlier iRS1 Carbon 1.5, and the e-bike category covers the alternatives. BH road frame sizing follows the same logic as the RS1; our BH road bike size guide applies. Our groupset explainer covers the Di2 and mechanical 105 systems used across the range.
