What should I check when buying a used road bike?
On a pre-owned road bike, inspect the frame around the head tube, bottom bracket, seatstays and dropouts for cracks or impact marks, and on carbon frames look for deep scratches. Confirm the groupset shifts across all gears, check the brakes and rotors, and look for play at the bottom bracket and headset. Confirm the frame size, and the generation and brake type (rim vs disc). Every pre-owned road bike on Bikeroom is inspected by our mechanics before sale.
