Finding your size on a Trek Checkpoint or Checkmate gravel bike
Trek splits its gravel range into two jobs. The Checkpoint is the do everything adventure and endurance platform, now in its third generation in carbon SL and aluminium ALR, while the Checkmate SLR is the light, fast race weapon. They use different geometry philosophies, so the smartest way to size a Trek gravel bike is to start from your reach and stack, not the frame number. Get the fit right first, then choose the model that matches how you ride. Explore current stock on the Trek collection.
Please note. These ranges are indicative and meant to guide you to the right size, not to guarantee a perfect fit. Proportions, flexibility, terrain and how loaded you ride all shift the answer. Use this as a strong starting point and confirm with a proper fit or a quick message to our concierge.
Quick size finder
| Rider height | Leg length (inseam) | Checkpoint SL | Checkpoint ALR |
|---|---|---|---|
| 155 to 165 cm | 70 to 76 cm | 49 | 49 |
| 163 to 172 cm | 74 to 80 cm | 52 | 52 |
| 170 to 178 cm | 78 to 83 cm | 54 | 54 |
| 176 to 183 cm | 81 to 86 cm | 56 | 56 |
| 181 to 189 cm | 85 to 90 cm | 58 | 58 |
| 188 to 196 cm | 89 to 94 cm | 61 | 61 |
On gravel, reach is what determines whether the cockpit feels roomy or cramped once you add rough terrain and longer hours in the saddle, so the per model tables below are framed around reach and rider height.
How to measure yourself
Height. Stand against a wall without shoes, heels together, and mark the top of your head. Measure from the floor to the mark.
Leg length (inseam). Stand with your back to the wall, feet about 15 cm apart, and press a hardback book up into your crotch like a saddle. Keep it level, mark the top edge on the wall and measure from the floor. On drop bar gravel bikes this inseam number drives standover and saddle height, so measure it carefully.
Trek Checkpoint SL (Gen 3)
The carbon all rounder. Gravel endurance geometry gives a taller front and a stable, planted feel, with IsoSpeed compliance and clearance for big tyres. Reviewers describe it as friendly and unflappable over long, mixed days.
| Size | Stack (mm) | Reach (mm) | Rider height |
|---|---|---|---|
| 49 | 535 | 380 | 155 to 165 cm |
| 52 | 556 | 386 | 163 to 172 cm |
| 54 | 579 | 391 | 170 to 178 cm |
| 56 | 601 | 397 | 176 to 183 cm |
| 58 | 620 | 402 | 181 to 189 cm |
| 61 | 640 | 408 | 188 to 196 cm |
Fit character: tall, stable and comfortable, built for all day adventure and loaded riding.
Trek Checkpoint ALR (Gen 3)
The aluminium value pick. It shares the Gen 3 gravel endurance geometry with a marginally taller front than the SL, so the fit is close to the carbon bike at a friendlier price. A dependable, durable choice for bikepacking and everyday gravel.
| Size | Stack (mm) | Reach (mm) | Rider height |
|---|---|---|---|
| 49 | 545 | 380 | 155 to 165 cm |
| 52 | 566 | 385 | 163 to 172 cm |
| 54 | 589 | 391 | 170 to 178 cm |
| 56 | 611 | 397 | 176 to 183 cm |
| 58 | 630 | 402 | 181 to 189 cm |
| 61 | 650 | 408 | 188 to 196 cm |
Fit character: the same planted, upright gravel position as the SL, tough and ready for loads.
Trek Checkmate SLR
The race option. Checkmate SLR is Trek current gravel racer and it replaces the old Checkpoint SLR at the top of the range, with a lower, longer, more aggressive position aimed at speed. If you want to line up at gravel races rather than tour, this is the Trek to look at.
Data flag. We are still confirming the full official stack and reach table for the Checkmate SLR across all sizes, so it is not tabulated here yet. Message our concierge with your height and we will match you to the right Checkmate size against Trek official geometry.
What Trek gravel riders find
Owners consistently praise the Checkpoint for its composure. The Gen 3 taller front and long wheelbase make it calm on descents and comfortable over hours of chatter, which suits endurance events and loaded touring far more than a nervous race position. The ALR draws loyalty for feeling almost identical to the SL in fit while shrugging off abuse. Riders chasing outright speed tend to move to the Checkmate SLR, trading the upright comfort for a lower, racier cockpit. Across the range, the practical takeaway is simple: pick your size on reach and rider height, then pick SL, ALR or Checkmate on how aggressive you want to sit.
Between two sizes?
If your height falls on a boundary, use inseam and intent to decide. Longer legs, good flexibility or a preference for a stretched, faster position point to the larger size. A shorter inseam, a taste for nimble handling on technical trails or plans to run a loaded bar and bags point to the smaller size, which keeps the bike easier to throw around. When touring loaded, most riders are happier sizing to comfort rather than reach.
