Montreal hosts the UCI Road World Championships from 20 to 27 September 2026, the first time in more than a decade that the rainbow jersey is decided in North America. The elite men cover 273.2 km with 3,720 m of climbing on Sunday 27 September, starting in Brossard-Montérégie. The elite women race 180 km with 2,502 m the day before. Both finish on the uphill false flat of Avenue du Parc after repeated laps of the Mont Royal circuit.
Worlds is the one week of the season when riders swap trade team kit for national colours but keep their trade team bikes, usually with sponsor decals intact. So if you want to know what will roll off the start ramp in Montreal, look at the 2026 WorldTour equipment lists. The good news for anyone watching and wanting: most of those framesets already exist on the pre-owned road bike market.
Who rides what in 2026
Eighteen men's WorldTour teams, and a peloton that looks a little different from last season.
- Colnago Y1Rs and V5Rs at UAE Team Emirates XRG. The team has leaned heavily on the aero Y1Rs through 2026, with the lighter V5Rs held in reserve for the steepest days.
- Cervélo S5 and R5 at Visma | Lease a Bike, with the Soloist kept back for cobbled racing.
- Specialized Tarmac SL8 at two teams, Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe and Soudal Quick-Step. Remco Evenepoel moved to the former for 2026 and now races SRAM Red AXS.
- Pinarello Dogma F at Ineos Grenadiers, on Scope wheels after years of Shimano hoops.
- Bianchi Specialissima RC and Oltre RC at Bahrain Victorious. This is the headline supplier change of 2026: the team ended nine seasons with Merida and moved to Bianchi.
- Canyon Aeroad CFR at Alpecin-Premier Tech and Movistar.
- Trek Madone SLR at Lidl-Trek, Giant Propel and TCR at Jayco AlUla, Scott Foil RC at the new NSN Cycling Team.
- Wilier Filante SLR at Groupama-FDJ United, Cannondale SuperSix EVO at EF Education-EasyPost, Orbea Orca at the merged Lotto Intermarché squad.
- Rounding out the grid: Van Rysel RCR-F at Decathlon CMA CGM, Lapierre Xelius DRS at Picnic PostNL, Ridley Noah Fast at Uno-X Mobility and X-Lab at XDS Astana.
Two brands are missing from the top tier this year. Factor is out after the Israel-Premier Tech squad became NSN, and Campagnolo is absent again following the relegation of Cofidis. SRAM, meanwhile, now supplies eight of the eighteen teams, up sharply on 2025.
Which of those bikes actually suits Montreal
The Mont Royal circuit is 13.4 km long and the riders will see it many times over. The Côte du Camillien-Houde is the high point at 2.3 km averaging 6.2 per cent, and the Polytechnique climb that follows carries ramps beyond 11 per cent. Nothing is long enough to shed a full kilo of frame weight advantage, but nothing lets you settle into a rhythm either.
That profile favours the modern aero all-rounder rather than a pure climbing frame. Expect to see Y1Rs rather than V5Rs at UAE, S5 rather than R5 at Visma, Aeroad rather than Ultimate at Canyon-supplied teams. The Tarmac SL8 sits comfortably in the middle of that argument, which is part of why two teams keep choosing it. If Montreal turns wet, and late September in Quebec often does, tyre choice and descending confidence on Camillien-Houde will matter more than the last few watts of drag.
Buying the frameset you watched all week
A current team frameset is expensive new and holds a lot of its value, which is exactly why the pre-owned route makes sense. Two things worth knowing before you shop.

If you are shopping around the Worlds, be aware of the calendar effect. Interest in a specific model tends to spike in the days after a rider wins on it, and so do asking prices elsewhere. Deciding what you want before the rainbow jersey is handed out is the calmer way to do it.
The short version
Montreal is a punchy, repetitive, 273 km test that will be won on an aero all-rounder rather than a featherweight climber. The Y1Rs, S5, Tarmac SL8, Dogma F, Madone SLR and Oltre RC are all plausible winners' bikes. All six are models you can find pre-owned, verified and warrantied, without waiting for a 2027 delivery slot.
