Giant Road Bike Size Guide: Find Your Fit by Height and Leg Length

Giant Road Bike Size Guide: Find Your Fit by Height and Leg Length

Sizing a Giant road bike

Giant keeps its road sizing refreshingly simple: the race TCR and the aero Propel share the exact same geometry, so choosing between them is about aero versus weight, not fit, while the endurance Defy sits taller and shorter for comfort. All three use Giant's six size letters including the genuinely useful M/L, which tidies up the middle where riders so often straddle Medium and Large. The frames run slightly racy and long, so between two sizes many riders take the smaller, or reach for the M/L.

Please note. These sizes are a starting point, not a guarantee. Giant's height bands overlap by design, so torso length, flexibility and how aggressive you want to sit all shift the choice. A fit check settles any doubt.

Quick size finder

Find your height, cross check your inside leg, and read across. The TCR and Propel share one geometry; the Defy uses the same size letters but a taller, more relaxed fit.

Rider height Leg length (inseam) TCR (race) Propel (aero) Defy (endurance)
157 to 165 cm 71 to 76 cm XS XS XS
165 to 171 cm 76 to 80 cm S S S
171 to 177 cm 79 to 84 cm M M M
177 to 183 cm 83 to 87 cm M/L M/L M/L
183 to 189 cm 86 to 91 cm L L L
189 to 199 cm 90 to 97 cm XL XL XL

If you are around 177 to 183 cm, the M/L is usually the answer. Within an overlap, go smaller for a racier, quicker feel or larger for more reach and stability.

How to measure yourself

Height. Stand barefoot against a wall, heels together, and measure to the top of your head.

Leg length (inseam). Barefoot, feet about 15 cm apart, press a book up to the wall like a saddle and measure floor to spine.

Then use reach. The Defy sits much taller than the TCR and Propel at the same letter, so compare the reach below with a bike you like to decide how upright you want to be.

TCR and Propel (race and aero)

The TCR is the balanced race all rounder and the Propel its aero sibling, and because they share identical stack and reach you can pick between them purely on aero versus weight. This is the low, long, race position of the range. Available in 6 sizes: XS to XL.

Frame size XS S M M/L L XL
Stack (mm) 517 528 545 562 581 596
Reach (mm) 376 383 388 393 402 412
Rider height 157 to 165 165 to 171 171 to 177 177 to 183 183 to 189 189 to 199

If a TCR fits, the Propel fits identically. The Propel's integrated aero cockpit fixes stem length, so set the size and cockpit at purchase, since changing it later is costly.

Defy (endurance)

The Defy is the endurance bike, roughly 15 to 20 mm taller in stack and about 10 mm shorter in reach than the TCR at the same size, for an upright, all day position. It suits taller and long torso riders especially well. Available in 6 sizes: XS to XL.

Frame size XS S M M/L L XL
Stack (mm) 527 541 558 577 596 615
Reach (mm) 369 375 380 384 393 402
Rider height 157 to 165 165 to 171 171 to 177 177 to 183 183 to 189 189 to 199

The D-Fuse seatpost and bar add comfort. Because the Defy already sits tall, riders wanting a racier feel sometimes size down and raise the saddle.

What Giant riders find

The TCR is regarded as running slightly long and racy, so the common advice between sizes is to size down and fit a longer stem rather than up, and the M/L is the popular pick for riders around 178 to 183 cm. The Propel shares the TCR's numbers exactly, so if you know your TCR size, order the same Propel; its one piece aero cockpit is the main gotcha, since stem length is baked in and expensive to change later. The Defy sits noticeably taller and is loved for comfort, though flexible riders sometimes find even its reach generous and size down. Across the range the rule owners repeat is that it is easier to make a short bike longer than a long bike shorter, so favour the smaller size when truly on the border.

Between two sizes?

Reach for the M/L if you are in that band. Otherwise go smaller for a racier, quicker bike or larger for reach and calm, and choose the model by aero, weight or comfort rather than fit. Send us your height and inside leg and we will help you choose.

TCR, Propel or Defy? Ask our concierge

With three models on one size ladder and the M/L in play, this is a good one to talk through. Share your height, inside leg and how you ride, and our concierge team will recommend the model and size. Talk to our concierge.

These sizes are guidance, not a fitting guarantee. Stack and reach are official Giant data; the TCR and current Propel share identical figures. Rider height bands follow Giant's chart and overlap by design, so confirm against the specific bike you are buying.
