Scott Mountain Bike Size Guide: Find Your Fit by Height and Reach

Scott Mountain Bike Size Guide: Find Your Fit by Height and Reach

Sizing a Scott mountain bike

Mountain bikes are sized by reach and rider height rather than seat tube, and Scott makes that easy by using one height chart across its whole MTB range: an S, M, L or XL fits roughly the same rider on every model. What changes from bike to bike is not the size you pick but the reach and the character, from the racy Spark to the planted Ransom. Two things are worth knowing up front: the XC bikes run a little long, so size down if you are between, and several frames hide the shock inside the front triangle, which can limit how long a dropper post you fit.

Browse the range while you read: all Scott bikes at Bikeroom.

Quick note. Every size here is a starting point, not a promise. On a mountain bike your reach preference, riding style and flexibility matter as much as height, and a test ride or fit settles it. Scott's height bands also overlap on purpose so you can choose by feel.

Your Scott size by height

Find your height. This size applies across the Scott MTB range; the model tables below then show the reach so you can fine tune. Shorter reach rides more playful and nimble, longer reach rides more stable and planted.

Rider height Scott MTB size
158 to 170 cm S
168 to 178 cm M
178 to 187 cm L
186 to 199 cm XL
197 cm and up XXL (Scale alloy only)

Where the bands overlap, pick S for a shorter, flickable cockpit or the next size up for stability and room. On the XC Spark and Scale, lean smaller if in doubt.

How to choose your size

Measure your height barefoot against a wall. Then think about reach: the single number that defines a modern MTB cockpit. If you have ridden a bike you liked, compare its reach to the tables below. Finally, mind standover and dropper room: Scott's short, sloping seat tubes give great standover, but the in-frame shock on several models caps how long a dropper you can run, which matters more than frame size for tall, long legged riders.

The current MTB range, model by model

All models take S, M, L and XL (Scale adds an alloy XXL). Sizes map to the height chart above; the reach tells you how each one will feel.

Spark RC (XC and downcountry)

The Spark is the World Cup XC bike, an eager climber that descends better than its travel suggests. Its reach runs slightly long for the category, so size down if you are on a boundary.

Frame size S M L XL
Reach (mm) 411 441 471 501
Rider height 158 to 171 168 to 180 178 to 189 186 to 199

Scale (XC hardtail)

The Scale is the snappy XC hardtail, a touch shorter in reach than the Spark and the only model with an alloy XXL. Note the tall, kinked seat tube limits dropper insertion for short legged riders.

Frame size S M L XL
Reach (mm) 419 442 464 491
Rider height 158 to 171 168 to 180 178 to 190 186 to 200

Genius (trail)

The Genius is the poppy, do it all trail bike with a lively feel and a modern, standard reach, so most riders keep their usual size. The hidden shock caps dropper length, worth flagging if you are tall.

Frame size S M L XL
Reach (mm) 430 460 485 510
Rider height 163 to 173 170 to 180 178 to 188 183 to 195

Ransom (enduro)

The Ransom is the big, stable enduro machine, mullet capable via a flip chip, yet it still climbs well and has generous dropper clearance thanks to its horizontal in-frame shock. Reach mirrors the Genius, so keep your usual size.

Frame size S M L XL
Reach (mm) 428 458 483 508
Rider height 162 to 172 168 to 180 178 to 188 183 to 197

Patron eRIDE (full power e-MTB)

The Patron is the Bosch powered, 29 inch full power e-MTB, composed and planted with a very low standover and a low centre of gravity from the integrated battery and shock.

Frame size S M L XL
Reach (mm) 439 459 485 514
Rider height 162 to 172 168 to 180 178 to 188 183 to 197

Lumen and Voltage eRIDE (light e-MTB)

The Lumen is the light, TQ powered XC and trail e-MTB that rides like a normal bike, while the Voltage is the friendly, playful light e-trail all rounder. As with the Lumen, the integrated shock limits seatpost insertion, so choose size by reach and dropper fit rather than sizing up blindly.

Frame size S M L XL
Lumen reach (mm) 416 446 476 501
Voltage reach (mm) 437 457 485 513
Rider height 162 to 172 168 to 180 178 to 188 183 to 197

What Scott riders find

The clearest pattern is that the XC bikes, the Spark and Scale, run long, so if you are between sizes on those, take the smaller frame and enjoy the quicker handling. The trail, enduro and e-MTB models track the modern standard, so keep your usual size. The recurring practical quirk across the range is the hidden shock: on the Spark, Scale, Genius and Lumen it can limit how long a dropper post you fit and how far the post drops, which matters more to tall, long legged riders than the frame size itself. The Ransom is the exception with plenty of dropper room. Standover is generous everywhere thanks to short seat tubes, and most models let you tweak the head angle with headset cups.

Between two sizes?

Go smaller for a nimble, playful bike that loves tight trails, or larger for calm stability at speed. On the Spark and Scale specifically, the smaller frame is usually the better call. If dropper insertion is tight on your inseam, that can decide it, so tell us your height and inside leg and we will check the numbers with you.

Sizing here is guidance offered in good faith, not a fitting guarantee. Reach figures are current Scott data and are high confidence; some rider height ranges are drawn from Scott's shared category charts and can shift between model years. The alloy Scale XXL and light e-MTB details in particular are best confirmed against the exact bike you are buying.
