Colnago Road Bike Size Guide: Find Your Fit by Height and Leg Length

Colnago Road Bike Size Guide: Find Your Fit by Height and Leg Length

Colnago road bike size guide

Colnago is one of the most storied names in cycling, but its size numbers confuse almost every first time buyer. Colnago labels each frame by its seat tube length in millimetres, measured Italian style from the centre of the bottom bracket to the seat tube node. That means the number reads roughly 3 cm smaller than a mainstream brand: a Colnago 530 is not a 53 cm frame, it fits like a conventional 58. Once you ignore the label and look at stack and reach, Colnago fit is actually very normal, and slightly long in reach for a race bike. The one exception is the aero Y1Rs, which uses letter sizes from XS to XL.

This guide gives you a quick recommendation by height and leg length, then the detail for each current road model: the exact sizes, official stack and reach, and what real riders report. Ready to shop? Browse all Colnago bikes at Bikeroom.

Please note: The size suggestions in this guide are indicative only. They are a starting point based on average body proportions and official geometry, not a guarantee of fit. Your ideal size can vary with torso and arm length, flexibility, riding style, and personal preference. For the best result, confirm your size with a professional bike fit or contact our team before you buy.

Quick size finder

Find your height row, cross check your leg length (inseam), and read across to your model. Numbers are Colnago frame sizes. The V5Rs, V4Rs and C72 Road share the same seven size scale, the C68 Allroad uses its own numbers, and the aero Y1Rs uses five letter sizes.

Rider height Leg length (inseam) V5Rs Y1Rs V4Rs C72 Road C68 Allroad
155 to 163 cm 71 to 76 cm 420 XS 420 420 430
163 to 171 cm 75 to 81 cm 455 S 455 455 460
171 to 177 cm 80 to 84 cm 485 M 485 485 490
177 to 181 cm 84 to 87 cm 510 M 510 510 520
181 to 187 cm 87 to 91 cm 530 L 530 530 550
187 to 191 cm 91 to 94 cm 550 L 550 550 580
191 to 197 cm 94 to 99 cm 570 XL 570 570 580

These ranges are a starting point. C68 Allroad numbers and heights are indicative, since its taller stack lets many riders choose a slightly different size for comfort. Your ideal size also depends on torso and arm length, flexibility, and how aggressive you want your position.

How to measure yourself

Height. Stand barefoot against a wall, heels together, and measure to the top of your head.

Leg length (inseam). Stand barefoot with feet about 15 cm apart. Place a book spine up between your legs and press it to the wall as if it were a saddle. Measure from the floor to the top of the book. That figure is your inseam.

The quick formula. Colnago keys sizing off inseam. Multiply your inseam in cm by 0.66 to get an approximate seat tube in cm, then match it to the nearest Colnago number in millimetres. Example: an 80 cm inseam gives about 52.8, which points to a 510 or 530. Treat this as a cross check on the table above, not a final answer.

The current road range and how each model fits

V5Rs (race flagship)

The V5Rs is the current flagship race bike, the most aggressive and the most adjustable in the range with two fork rakes and two seatpost setbacks. It rewards flexible riders and racers. Available in 7 sizes: 420, 455, 485, 510, 530, 550 and 570.

Frame size 420 455 485 510 530 550 570
Stack (mm) 509 523 539 557 575 593 612
Reach (mm) 371 377 384 390 397 404 411
Rider height 155 to 161 164 to 170 172 to 176 178 to 180 182 to 186 188 to 190 192 to 196

The most race focused fit Colnago makes, with the widest adjustment range to dial it in.

Y1Rs (aero race)

The Y1Rs is Colnago's aero race bike, the aggressive, wind cheating machine ridden to Grand Tour wins. Reviewers find it surprisingly normal to fit for an aero bike, with a low front end that suits fast, flexible riders. Unlike the rest of the road range it uses five letter sizes. Available in 5 sizes: XS, S, M, L and XL.

Frame size XS S M L XL
Stack (mm) 495 520 540 565 590
Reach (mm) 368 377 386 395 404
Rider height 157 to 167 166 to 176 175 to 183 182 to 190 189 to 197

Aero and aggressive, but easier to live with than most aero bikes. With only five sizes the jumps are larger, so use stack and reach to place yourself. Colnago also offers a dedicated Y1Rs size calculator.

V4Rs (race)

The V4Rs is the previous generation race bike, still sold and still a favourite. Racy through a low stack and longish reach, with a deliberately relaxed head angle for high speed stability. Available in 7 sizes: 420, 455, 485, 510, 530, 550 and 570.

Frame size 420 455 485 510 530 550 570
Stack (mm) 510 522 539 557 575 593 612
Reach (mm) 370 375 383 388 395 403 410
Rider height 155 to 161 164 to 170 172 to 176 178 to 180 182 to 186 188 to 190 192 to 196

Essentially the same fit as the C68 Road. Racy, but the slack head angle keeps it stable rather than twitchy.

C72 Road (lugged flagship)

The C72 is the hand built, lugged Italian flagship that replaced the C68 Road in 2026. It keeps a race platform but raises the stack to reach ratio slightly for a more sustainable position, with clearance up to 35 mm tyres. Available in 7 sizes: 420, 455, 485, 510, 530, 550 and 570.

Frame size 420 455 485 510 530 550 570
Stack (mm) 512 525 543 562 580 599 619
Reach (mm) 370 375 382 387 394 402 409
Rider height 155 to 161 164 to 170 172 to 176 178 to 180 182 to 186 188 to 190 192 to 196

A touch more relaxed than the V4Rs at the same size thanks to the taller stack and marginally shorter reach.

C68 Allroad (endurance)

The C68 Allroad is Colnago's relaxed road bike, with a much taller stack and shorter reach for a comfortable, upright position and clearance up to 35 mm tyres. It uses its own six size scale. Available in 6 sizes: 430, 460, 490, 520, 550 and 580.

Frame size 430 460 490 520 550 580
Stack (mm) 523 543 563 583 603 623
Reach (mm) 370 375 380 386 393 400
Rider height 156 to 164 164 to 172 172 to 178 178 to 184 184 to 191 191 to 198

The relaxed choice in the range. If you find the race models too low at the front, this is the Colnago for you. Rider heights here are indicative.

What riders say about Colnago sizing

Feedback from cycling forums, reviews and long term owners points to a few consistent themes worth knowing before you buy.

The number runs about 3 cm small, but the fit is normal. This is the single most repeated point. The small looking number is a labelling quirk from Italian seat tube measurement, not a real fit gap. On stack and reach, Colnago is very close to any other brand, so never compare a Colnago number directly to a mainstream size.

Reach is on the long side for a race bike. In superbike comparisons the V4Rs comes out among the longer bikes, so if anything Colnago is marginally long rather than short. Riders coming from a shorter cockpit should account for that.

Between two sizes, most riders size down. This matches Colnago's own guidance and general fit logic, since it is easier to add length with stem and setback than to remove it. Owners wanting more comfort do the opposite and pick the C68 Allroad or add spacers.

Compare stack and reach, not the label. Because old generation Colnago numbers do not line up cleanly with the current platform, and because the Y1Rs uses letters, buyers cross shopping used and new should always check stack and reach on a geometry tool rather than trusting the size name.

Still unsure between two sizes?

Use this simple rule: choose the smaller frame for sharper handling and a racier position, or the larger frame for more comfort and stability. A shorter torso or long legs points to the smaller size, a long torso or short legs points to the larger one.
