Learn more about duty exemptions.

Duty Free - United Kingdom

Bikeroom ships your product directly from Italy. Because the goods originate from the EU (but are not made here), customs charge 14% import fees on top of the 20% VAT due upon importing them. Aware of the potential surprises or complexities that may arise during the import process, Bikeroom offers to collect all the due taxes directly at checkout. This way, you already know the final price with no additional costs.

The good news is that your country offers a few exemptions for importing products with specific characteristics.
The bikes and frames in our “duty-free” section benefit from duty exemptions.

Exemption from the 14% duty.

If the product you are viewing has the “duty-free” tag, it means that, if imported into your country, you are entitled to an exemption from the 14% duty. This benefit is due to the specific characteristics of certain products available on Bikeroom that meet the requirements set by your country for such an exemption. However, it is important to note that the exemption does not apply to all products, as it depends on specific technical criteria. Therefore, even with similar characteristics, one product may be exempt from duty while another may not. Each product is clearly identified on our website, so you can know in advance whether you will only need to pay the 20% VAT or if you will also the import duty.

Example:

We have added a Bottecchia bicycle to the cart, which, thanks to its specific production characteristics, falls into the categories that allow for duty exemption. Therefore, the “duties” line is removed and shows 0 GBP. This means that only the 20% VAT is charged for this product.

Note: this does not apply if you make an offer. In that case, any duties and VAT will be paid directly to the courier after delivery. You can simulate the cost of these by adding the bike to your cart without placing a bid.

Delivered Duty Paid and import declaration.

Furthermore, by paying directly at checkout and ensuring that the amount paid is correct, Bikeroom provides you with a 360-degree service. We ship under DDP (Delivered Duty Paid), taking care of the entire process, from shipment management to customs procedures, including any additional requests and the payment of duties and VAT. If you receive any requests from your local customs, simply forward them to us, and we will handle everything directly. Additionally, all import management costs are covered by Bikeroom, whereas they would be your responsibility for a non-DDP shipment. This way guarantees a smooth, secure, and worry-free shopping experience.

After completing the duty payment on our website, you can request a copy of the import declaration, which includes details of the duty and VAT percentages applied by your country and charged to us. This document will be available approximately 30 days after you receive the product, allowing us the necessary time to obtain it from customs and the courier. If there is a price difference in your favor, we will automatically refund the excess amount paid, ensuring full transparency on the costs incurred.

Note: This does not apply if you make an offer. In that case, any duties and VAT will be paid directly to the courier after delivery, and the import process is entirely your responsibility. You can simulate the cost of these by adding the bike to your cart without placing a bid.
