Pinarello was born in 1952 from the intuition of a man, Giovanni "Nani" Pinarello, and his irreducible passion for racing, with a unique mission: to make the best bikes in the world. From a small workshop in Treviso, he quickly achieved what others thought impossible: to help change the world of cycling forever. Seventy years later, Fausto Pinarello continues the family tradition that Pinarello knows: victory. Giovanni "Nani" Pinarello was born in 1922 in the province of Treviso and experienced the golden age of Italian cycling from an early age, soon falling in love with this sport. He had a successful amateur career and then turned professional in 1947. During his amateur days, Nani worked for the historic bicycle brand Paglianti, a much-loved profession to which he returned when his professional career ended in 1951. The following year Nani opened a shop in his hometown and began the wonderful journey. The first international victory came in 1961, when Guido De Rosso won the first edition of the Tour de l'Avenir. The first Grand Tour win came in 1975 with the unexpected victory of a young Giovanni Battaglin on the bends of the Stelvio Pass, and for Pinarello it was the first step in the wonderful journey that would make it one of the most successful bike manufacturers in the history of the Grand Tour. The 1980s were an extremely lively period for Pinarello. Battaglin won Giro in 1981, and the imaginative American cyclist Alexi Grewal won the gold medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. At the end of the 80’s is the time for the new generation of Pinarello: Giovanni passed the baton to his son Fausto, who took over his father's legacy. It’s the era of Miguel Indurain and his record speaks for itself: five Tour de France, two Giro d'Italia, two Giro-Tour doubles, the hour record, world time trial champion in 1995 and gold medal at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996, again in the time trial. All riding a Pinarello, the splendid Italian bicycles became undisputed icons of speed. His legendary Pinarello Espada was an icon of absolute speed, a bike that transcended the rules of the game. The 1990s saw the successes of Team Telekom, and their Pinarello bikes soon became symbols of a new era in cycling. Stars like Bjarne Riis, Jan Ullrich and Erik Zabel won two Tours de France, several Olympic medals and the rainbow jersey in the time trial at the 1999 World Championships, thanks to an exceptional performance by Jan Ullrich in Treviso, just a few weeks after the German won the Vuelta of Spain. The 2000’s are the years of the definitive partnership, the liaison with Team SKY. Seven Tour de France, two Giro d'Italia, two Vuelta de España, dozens of national titles, unforgettable victories in Milano-Sanremo, Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Strade Bianche, and almost total supremacy in Paris-Nice and the Critérium du Dauphiné, these are just a few highlights of what has been an unprecedented decade of success. The team changed its name, but not the attitude, always victory-oriented by pushing the limits. It is the strong belief in these values that today makes the partnership between Ineos Grenadiers and Pinarello so special.
